Purpose Statement

"The Southwest Church of Christ exists to lead people to Jesus Christ and MEMBERSHIP in his family in order to grow in Christ-like MATURITY, equip one another for MINISTRY and MISSION in the world, and MAGNIFY God as we worship together."

This purpose statement not only defines what we do, it describes who we are. Everything at Southwest is built upon the five purposes. They are our foundation and direction for service to God and our fellow man. Although the purposes are found throughout Scripture, they are primarily based on the following key Scriptures:

The Great Commandment (Matt. 22:36-40)

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (MAGNIFY). This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: "Love your neighbor as yourself (MINISTRY)." All the law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

The Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20)

"Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (MISSION), and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you (MATURITY). And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

The Great Prayer (John 17:20-22)

"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one (MEMBERSHIP)."
