The planting of new churches in the Northwest is continuing.  Stan Granberg is working with a group of people in South Salem, Oregon to plant a new Church.  The Church will be called Cascade Hills, A Church of Christ.  Jason & Melissa Campbell, and Dwayne, Julie & Riley Hilty are the planting families.  You may view their monthly newsletter that shows the progress that is being made at  www.cascadehillscoc.org/news/2005-02 Newsletter.pdf   A group of 14 students from Abilene Christian University in Texas are planning a mission trip to Salem March 5-12 while on spring break.  This group will be conducting surveys, passing out flyers, etc.  The planting families and the Abilene students request our prayers in their efforts to aid in the development of this new congregation.

Stan Granberg provided an update on the church-planting ministry to the Southwest Church of Christ January 30, 2005.  During the week he met with the elders, several Church members, and other Church leaders and ministers in the area in an effort to spread the word about KAIROS, raise funds, and identify persons interested in Church planting.

KAIROS is a church planting support ministry.

Purpose:  Recruit, equip and support churches and church planters to plant new churches.

A Church planting effort began on the south side of Salem, Oregon in September 2004.  Two Churches are already supporting this effort.  There are about 12 persons that are meeting every other week that are trying to launch a new church.  The church will be Cascade Hills Church of Christ. The Church Planters are Jason and Melissa Campbell.  Dwayne, Julie, & Riley Hilty are also working as Church planters for Cascade Hills. The Churches that are supporting this effort are:

Stan will be hosting a Church Planting Workshop 3/18 – 20/05 at Cascade College in an effort to find new Church planters.  He also plans to conduct workshops at the Harding Graduate School in Memphis during September, October and November of 2005.  The Southwest Church of Christ will interview some of those attending these workshops trying to find a Church planter that we will support.   We have planned to support three Church planters over the next three years.

When the new Churches are launched, KAIROS requests that the new Church incorporate as a Church of Christ, and that the Church return 10 percent of its receipts to KAIROS for ten years.  These funds will be used to hire new Church planters.

Future Events

The Church plans to open bids February 7, 2005 on the remodeling construction of the Southwest Church of Christ.   The construction will be done in phases:

Phase 1 - Library

Phase 2 - 200 Wing

Phase 3 - 100 Wing Reception area

Phase 4 - 500 Jungle Wing

Phase 5 - Auditorium

Bids will be let on Phase 1, 2, & 3.  The Church will receive estimates for phase 4 & 5.

A team led by Marcus Short will be producing a video February 13, 2005, that will be shown to the Church February 20, 2005.  Joe James, Travis Eades and Greg Arnold will be assisting in this project.  The video will be something like the TV series “extreme home makeover” and will be used to help keep the dream alive.
